Having trouble with the Pocket PC?

Windows® CE for the Pocket PC is reliable and fairly stable but there are times when the pocket pc locks up, or synchronization just doesn’t seem to work.  This happens far more often in the Pocket PC then it does on regular PCs running modern Windows®.

ActiveSync doesn’t sync or takes longer than ten minutes

If ActiveSync give you an error, remove your pocket pc from its docking station, wait 15 seconds, then place it in the docking station again.  This usually fixes ActiveSync problems.

If ActiveSync starts and ten minutes later it is still syncing … and usually it only takes a few minutes, then do as above, unplug your pocket pc, wait 15 seconds, then plug it back in.

Pocket PC is locked up and nothing runs

If your pocket pc locks up all you need to do is use the stylus and press the reset button performing a Soft Reset.  On an iPAQ it is on the bottom of the unit.  A soft reset simply stops all running programs.  If you have a pocket pc that uses a Socket Scanner you must re-start Socket Scan first;

1)     Click on the Windows Flag logo

2)     Click on Programs

3)     Click on Socket Scan

That enables your scanner.  You should not have to re-program your buttons.  Next you re-start TCMaxMobile

1)     Click on the Windows Flag logo

2)     Click on Programs

3)     Click on TCMaxMobile

Synchronization Fails or Fatal Database Errors while running TCMaxMobile

If you get errors during synchronization and syncing seems to be not working or you get fatal errors while running TCMaxMobile the most effective way to correct those errors is to replace the TCMaxMobile2 Pocket Access® database on your pocket pc.

1)     Plug your pocket pc into its docking station and wait for ActiveSync® to complete.

2)     From ActiveSync:

a.      In the lower window of your ActiveSync program (click Details if you don’t see the window) double click on the Pocket Access item.

b.      There should be one database listed.  Click on it and click Remove, followed by OK.

c.      Close this window.

d.      Click the large Explore button on the top of the ActiveSync program.  This opens a windows explorer window, looking into your pocket pc

3)     Single click on the file titled TCSMobile2, then hit the Delete key.  Windows will ask you if you are sure, click Yes.

4)     Click the Folders button at the top of this Explorer window and select your C: drive.  Navigate to your c:\Program Files\Soaring Software Solutions\TCMax\ folder.

5)     Find the TCMaxMobile2 (may be called TCMaxMobile2.mdb) file and delete it.

6)     Find your TCMax installation CD and re-install TCMax.  The purpose of this is to re-install a blank TCMaxMobile2 database.

7)     Start TCMax on your PC and do a synchronization.

8)     Finally you must import the TCMaxMobile2.mdb database into the pocket pc again using the following instructions from the ActiveSync® menu.

a.      If your pocket pc is not already in the cradle, put it there and wait for ActiveSync® to complete its synchronization.

b.      Click on Tools then click on Import Database Tables.

c.      A file navigation window appears.  Use it to navigate to c:\Program Files\Soaring Software Solutions\TCMax\ .

d.      In there you will see two database files, TCS.mdb and TCSMobile2.mdb.  Your computer may display them as TCS and TCSMobile2 (without the .mdb)

e.      Click on TCSMobile2 then click the Open button

f.        A Copy & Convert box opens for a moment then the Import from Database to Mobile Device box opens.

g.      Click the OK button.  The database tables and records are all imported into the pocket pc.

9)     Your pocket pc should be ready to use again.

Pocket PC is running VERY slow

If your pocket pc runs very slow all you need to do is use the stylus and press the reset button performing a Soft Reset.  On an iPAQ it is on the bottom of the unit.  A soft reset simply stops all running programs.  If you have a pocket pc that uses a Socket Scanner you must re-start Socket Scan first, see page 14 item b of your user manual.

Pocket PC Scanner seems to scan slowly or scans more than once

We have seen this a few times.  Simply unplug your Socket scanner, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.
